Natchez, Mississippi & Vidalia, Louisiana

Note:  This is an "after the fact" post as we work our way backwards to catch you up on our previous destinations.

The Natchez Trace Parkway was a super peaceful drive!

And we were on that for most of our drive from Pelahatchie, Mississippi to Vidalia, Louisiana on 12/10/20.

Proof of the quiet road; one could stand out there for minutes at a time!

As you know by now, we can't always get an RV park right where we want to be. So when Marty said "find a park in or near Natchez, Mississippi", I found a good park just a few minutes away . . . in Louisiana!

Vidalia, Louisiana, that is.

Our campsite at River View RV Park was near the edge of the mighty Mississippi River. Thus the sandbags, which fortunately we did not need.

Morning fog on the Mississippi -- as seen from our RV park

One evening we strolled down the river path to the bridge -- isn't the reflection of the lights on the water pretty?

Every day we crossed the bridge (above) over to Natchez, MI, which was quite the happening place! (These next several photos are of Natchez until I tell you otherwise.)

Of course, there was the obligatory brewery stop!

We toured Stanton Hall

The city of Natchez has over 1,000 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places!

St. Mary Basilica

We did a driving tour of the Natchez City Cemetery with a rented CD from the Visitor's Center - pretty interesting!

Downtown Natchez really does it up for Christmas - courtesy of Netflix!

Natchez was selected among six cities by Netflix to hang Christmas lights in downtown. The decorations were not for a show, and Netflix did not film the decorations. They decorated select small cities in the nation in an effort to spread holiday cheer.

Five other US cities also received the special treatment:

Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania,

Augusta, Georgia

Alton, Illinois

Norman, Oklahoma

Vallejo, California

When we came out of the Stanton Hall home tour we heard music. We knew there was supposed to be live music at a place by the river later in the afternoon; but this was early afternoon, and it reminded me more like the ice cream man coming down the street . . . but playing Christmas tunes!

Mystery solved!

Words escape me . . .

Sunset over the Mississippi

Back on the Louisiana side of the river now:

Sunrise on the Mississippi through our windshield and our Christmas stars

The stars are our nod to Christmas lights

There's a feeling of Christmas in the air!

  1. Fantastic photos, as always. I wonder if Netflix will 'light' 5 more small cities next year? If so, I hope they light a town near us!
